Summer - 2023

My favourite time of year is here - with soaring temperatures (38 FUCKING DEGREES?!) arriving in Tokyo. I stopped writin in my physical diary daily during Spring - a combination of Academic business and . . . maybe something darker? As I write this, I'm just over halfway through my summer vacation - as always, wondering where all the time has gone. Let's take a closer look at my plans and my performance.

Technically, the first thing I did was go to the Waterpark with some friends! I love waterparks, they are the most quintessential summer thing to me. It was such a hot day that walking on the ground from one area to the other burned our feet, and we had to RUN on our tiptoes. That kind of communal suffering is also quintessential summer to me. We only managed to ride on slide in the end. I queued up for like an hour for another one, but I accidentally joined the queue for pairs (2 riders) without realising. I waited an hour before realising, then just hopped over the fence and walked back.

So after that I began my summer plan! I started with the (humble) goal of beating ALL my backlogged games I physically own, reading all my books, and then beginning to study with all my might. First was Final Fantasy 8! I love it. I became extremely obsessed and would do nothing else but play that game until it was finished. I have this habit of growing obsessed with the things I'm doing and getting EXTREME tunnel vision. FF8 was a sign of how the rest of my summer would play out.

My school had a compulsory summer project - to create some metal songs for a client in a team. I've made a few friends at school (luckily @_@) and they all decided to form a group of first-year students! Together we would take on all the upperclassmen and WIN the tournament!

...That was the original plan at least. Due to a bunch of technical and scheduling errors, we are currently 1 week away from the deadline without a single successful vocal recording session. It takes a lot of my time to go to school (an hour!) so any day I travel to school is essentially a "school day" where I don't get much time to do much else. There's a couple of school days per week during my Wonderful Summer Holiday -_-

It took me a little toooooo long to beat FF8. It became clear I would not be able to play all the games I wanted - even during the freedom of summer vacation . . .
I started going outside and hanging out with people more. One day I walked to the nearby town, and on my way back I saw kids playing with fireworks by the river. I wanted to do that! I invited a bunch of people from my sharehouse to set off some fireworks with me at midnight. It was actually the final day of a friend from the house, but he showed up anyway. He literally started a little fire on the grass but we put it out lol.

I invited my friend Hiro to come over for a sleepover! We played n64 and PS1 games, walked around my town, ate Denny's (their grilled cheese was SO good omfg) and then spent like 2000 yen buying drinks so we could make cocktails (Hiro is a bartender). We drank and played card games with my sharehouse friends. Great time :3

At this point I realised my Summer Vacation was winding up to its finale, so I decided holy FUCK I need to do some stuff before it all goes. I climbed Mt Takao! It was insanely hot. One time I looked down and like a flood of sweat came from my hair, not drops but like genuine liquid it was so grim . .. . . . BUT like I said that sort of suffering is fun for me in Summer. The mountain was peaceful and I want to go to more nature sites before Summer ends.
I saw Barbie and How do you Live? in the cinema with my friend Andrea. It was really hot of course nyahaha. We ate pancakes for dinner and tbh I want to make more right now. I think I'll go to the Library in a bit.

I had to start going to school very often! Our summer homework ended up being 2 different recording projects where we have to use the school's facilities to make music. (the commute to school is 1 hour so when i go it always takes up at least half a day minimum) . i went to the hospital for some stuff too (im chronically ill) and called some friends from before i came here ! also im playing xenogears now which is an insane game . . it feels so monolithic i can barely look at it

actually its my birthday today ! me, andrea and another friend called mayra went to fuji-q, a theme park near mt fuji. it has the worlds tallest rollercoaster apparently, but it was closed :< it was still a really really lovely day . . . pretty soon my first year here will be up . . its hard to look back on properly just yet, i think ill make a separate post talking about it. school starts soon, and though its the last days of our summer vacation the heat is still maxed out . . i think itll stay pretty hot until mid-october eheheh..... for the latter part of summer vacation i went to kawagoe (incredible), saw a random rock liveshow at shimokitazawa OH i forgot i went to shimokitazawa for the flea market they have there (but it was still super expensive...) i bought a metro day pass and just explored random towns on the metro map... i started a new job then quit after shift 3 because it was insane OH and i watched all of digimon tamers and beyblade metal fusion... OH and sonic frontiers... i played that alongside my best friend.

thank you for reading my thoughts throughout the year !
